Divine Child is making a difference in our lives
Jaime was a caring and loving mother to her children.
5 years ago our daughter Jaime gave birth to her fifth child, Nina. Tragically, shortly after giving birth to Nina, Jaime passed. The father of the children was legally unable to support them. The children have lived with us since Jaime’s death five years ago. After a 4 1/2-year juvenile court battle all of the father’s parental rights were terminated. This opened the door for us to adopt all five children. The adoption recently became official.
4 years ago, Saint Sebastian School, the school kids were attending, closed. We were so blessed everything worked out and we were accepted and able to attend Divine Child. We were welcomed with open arms.
We have been in the process of building a second-floor addition to our 2-bedroom home for 1 and 1/2 years. We are at a point where we are doing most of the work ourselves with the help of some volunteers. This much-needed project couldn’t have been possible without the help of the Divine Child community. We are so grateful to God that he has introduced such wonderful and caring people into our lives.
Taking on such a daunting task, raising a new family, and starting a major construction project, can be overwhelming and takes its toll on us, We reach into our faith and it pulls us through. We realize that this is our vocation and our ministry. It is what God wants us to do. We are so blessed to have five children that rely on us to raise them physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Divine Child, championing our children
All 5 grandchildren now attend Divine Child due to the many sacrifices we have made along with the help from generous donors in the community. The children have had to experience things that most children do not. Our goal moving forward is to help heal their past and give them a bright future while raising them in a loving and caring environment that will secure their health, well-being, education, religious values, family values, and community involvement with us. Divine Child teachers, staff, and fellow students have helped reinforce these values in many ways by leading by example and showing our kids that they are a part of a caring community with Catholic values. We are truly grateful to be a part of this great school and parish. Divine Child is helping our kids achieve academic success and preparing them for life as they discover their capabilities while gaining confidence. The children are thriving in this school environment and our family is truly grateful for the support Divine Child has given us as parents raising children again in this day and age.
We may have crossed paths and shared a wave and a smile while I volunteer as a crossing guard. I greatly enjoy doing this each morning and take great care to ensure your child is safe as I would want for my own. I also volunteer as a lunch monitor every day. I am in my 2nd term as a Dearborn Heights City Councilman. I have always had a calling to volunteer and serve the community and I will continue to do so. I believe it is important to teach these values to children as well.
